Okay, we have another Mario game. What do we expect? Peach being kidnapped and Bowser looking for an ass-wooping. What don't we expect? Partners, 2D/3D adventure and an RPG.
Paper Mario was released on August 11th 2000 in Japan, February 5th 2001 in America and October 5th 2001 in Europe. It was originally on the N64, but is now downloadable on the Virtual Console and also rumoured to have a remake on the DS.
It was originally going to be developed for the Nintendo 64DD, until it's low commercialization, ending up to be a failure. It was then passed onto the original 64 console.
The plot is another of Bowser's doings, in which he steals the Star Rod from the Seven Star Spirits up in Star Haven, and imprisons them in cards. During a visit to Princess Peach's Castle, Mario and co. find themselves up in space, as Bowser's Castle has been underground Peach's all along and has forced Peach's Castle into the depth's of the Galaxy.
Mario confronts Bowser, but because of the Star Rod, Bowser becomes invincible. Mario is pushed out of the Castle in Space and plunged down to Earth. He awakes in a goomba village. He meets his first partner, Goombario. During his adventure, he meets more partners which have special abilities to help him progress into the game and to release the Seven Star Spirits and defeat Bowser.
At the end of the game, after defeating Bowser, there is no option to go back and replay every other event you may have missed. Once "The End" appears, you have to reset the game before you defeat Bowser.
